What is periodontology?
Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting tissues of the teeth, namely the gums, alveolar bone, and periodontal ligaments. The aim of periodontology is to maintain the health of the periodontium, prevent tooth loss, and restore oral function and aesthetics through specific treatments such as scaling, subgingival curettage, periodontal disease therapy, and periodontal surgical interventions.
